There are two distinct types of walls:
retaining and
decorative walls.
Decorative
walls can be made of many materials and
laid directly on properly compacted soil. They should generally be no more than
two feet high. These walls are for decoration and are not intended for support.
A retaining wall is a different matter. Anyone can stack blocks or stone,
but it takes a professional with the right equipment to complete the job
properly.
If you are considering having a block retaining wall built
make sure you are working with a certified installer.
We
have level one certification for design and construction
of segmental retaining walls. This certification was obtained through Reading Rock, the major manufacturer of segmental retaining block
(Allan Block) in the Cincinnati area.
